Lactation Induction in a Transgender Woman Wanting to Breastfeed: Case Report

Abstract Context Breastfeeding is known to have many health and wellness benefits the mother infant; however, breastfeeding in trans women has been greatly under-researched. Objective To review potential methods of lactation induction wishing breastfeed embryological basis for women. Design This article summarizes a case successful woman, which milk production was achieved just over 1 month. Setting patient followed an outpatient endocrinology clinic. Participant A single woman our clinic period 9 months while she took hormone therapy help with lactation. Interventions Readily available protocols nonpuerpural mothers were reviewed used guide selection. Daily dose progesterone increased from 100 mg 200 daily. The galactogogue domperidone started at 10 3 times daily titrated up effect. She encouraged use electric pump increase her frequency pumping. Main Outcome Measure Lactation Results At one month, had noticed significant breast size fullness. Her supply rapidly, producing 5 ounces per day manual expression alone. Conclusions We report second medical literature demonstrate through hormonal augmentation.
